A Study of Micro-Electrocorticography for Processing and Decoding Fine Motor Hand Movements

About this study

The purpose of this study is to use micro-electrode (micro-ECoG) grids to record and map information from the brain to compare to the current standard of care - ECoG grids - in processing and decoding the fine motor movements of the hand in patients undergoing long-term monitoring for the surgical treatment of medically-refractory seizure disorder.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Diagnosed with medically refractory epilepsy
  • Requires intracranial monitoring for diagnostic evaluation
  • Undergoing stage II implantation of grids
  • At least 18 years of age and less than 65 years 
  • Able to sign a consent

 

Exclusion Criteria

  • Stage II patients not willing to participate
  • Protected study populations such as
    • Pregnant women
    • Prisoners
    • Children 
    • Adults lacking capacity to consent
  • Medically unfit to participate
