A Study to Create a Computerized Assessment that Can Quickly Match Patient Needs to Rehabilitation Care Plans

About this study

The purpose of this study is to create a computerized multidimensional assessment that can quickly assign hospitalized patients to ability-matched rehabilitation care plans, in three essential areas; Mobility, Daily Activity, and Applied Cognition (ability to think/problem solve).

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Recruited from the Mayo Clinic Hospitals in Rochester and MCHS 
  • Identified through electronic search tool that has been previously used for recruitment into federally-funded clinical trials
  • Admitted to inpatient medical services within the preceding 24-72 hours from enrollment
  • Has been assigned an ICD-9 code for at least 1 chronic condition prior to hospitalization
  • Is a control without chronic conditions to enhance generalizeability
  • Part of targeted recruitment to ensure sample includes adequate subgroup representation for DIF analyses with the following characteristics
    • Roughly equal numbers in each age strata (<60, 60-75, and >75)
    • > 15% rate of high school non-completion (comparable to national levels)
    • > 15% rate of moderate to severe pain
    • > 15%  rate of moderate to severe fatigue
