About this study
The purpose of this study is to find the presence of virus pathogens in the pleural fluid of patients diagnosed with culture-negative, non-specific pleuritis using the FilmArray Respiratory Panel lab test.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria
- Patients ≥ 18 years old
- Biopsy-proven diagnosis of culture-negative, non-specific pleuritis
- Presenting to pleural clinic at Mayo Clinic Rochester to undergo either thoracentesis, pleuroscopy or video-assisted thoracoscopy for non-specific pleuritis
Exclusion Criteria
- No research consent
- Pregnant women
- Prisoners
- Adults unable to provide consent
- Patients previously enrolled in this study
- Pleuritis with previously diagnosed infectious pathogen
- No pleural fluid able to be obtained for testing during thoracoscopy
