About this study
The purpose of this study is to understand the lived experience of physical therapy rehabilitation for older adults after being seriously injured by a fall, requiring hospitalization.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria
- 65 years and older
- Has been hospitalized for an injurious fall and received physical therapy rehabilitation services for that condition
- The injurious fall and hospitalization occurred within three years of study enrollment
- Can be residing in their own home, with a caregiver/family member, or in an assistive living and/or skilled nursing environment
- Must be able to verbalize their experience in English either via a face to face interview or through telephone interview
- Must have capacity to hear and understand the study and give informed consent
Exclusion Criteria
- Unable to answer “yes” to all questions on the Mayo Clinic IRB’s Informed Consent for Research A Guide to Assessing a Participant’s Understanding
- Cannot recall receiving physical therapy services for fall related injury
