About this study
The purpose of this one group, repeated-measures pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility and potential benefits associated with a four-week Reiki intervention for individuals undergoing HD experiencing pain. This study will provide a foundation for future research that will evaluate the efficacy of Reiki in a larger randomized trial.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion criteria:
18 years or older,
English speaking,
currently undergoing HD three times per week,
receiving HD treatment for greater than six months,
and cognitively intact as evidenced by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Tool.
Exclusion criteria:
Non-English speaking patients will be excluded due to the planned questionnaire administration and funds being unavailable for translation for this study.
There is no prerequisite for pain, fatigue or depression; exploring these variables is part of the feasibility of the study.
