About this study
The purpose of this study is to identify how an interactive medical record timeline may improve the chart-review process for clinicians evaluating unfamiliar patients with complex medical/surgical histories in the ICU.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Study Participants:
- Currently appointed Mayo Rochester consultants, Pulmonary/Critical Care or Critical Care fellows, or Internal Medicine residents/prelims (all levels)
- has completed at least 1 month of prior ICU experience (for interns)
- Study Patients:
- >=18 years of age
- admitted to any Mayo Rochester ICU within the last 3 months
- have at least 7 prior hospital admissions
- identifies patients with “complex” medical records
Exclusion Criteria:
- Study Participants:
- <24 hours since an overnight call
- significant prior experience using the timeline tool during development
- however, participants of a one-time, 10-minute pilot survey are acceptable
- Study Patients:
- have declined research authorization
- federal prisoners
