Microbial composition in twins with Irritable bowel syndrome

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify twin pairs where one or both the siblings have Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) based on the Rome III criteria and to determine fecal microbiota changes in concordant and discordant twins with IBS.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Twin pairs between the ages of 18-65 years
  • Twin pairs from each of the four categories:
    • Monozygotic discordant
    • Monozygotic concordant
    • Dizygotic discordant
    • Dizygotic concordant

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Any alternate diagnoses leading to symptoms similar to IBS
