A Study to Examine Proteins from Chronic Otitis Media Fluid Samples in Patients undergoing Myringotomy and Possibly a Tube Insertion Procedure

About this study

During myringotomy and possibly a tube insertion procedure a small amount of fluid that is being removed from the middle ear (whether or not you participate in the study) will be examined for different proteins or it may be saved and used for future research studies.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients with a diagnosis of eosinophilic otitis media (EOM)
    • undergoing the standard therapy of a low risk myringotomy and tube insertion along with evacuating and discarding the middle ear fluid plus or minus topical steroid therapy
  • Control group 
    • Adults over the age of 18 who undergo myringotomy and tube insertion for chronic serous otitis media
