A Study to Improve the Use of Genetic Testing in Disease Prevention and Clinical Care and to Further Understand Types of Genetic Differences that May Cause Disease

About this study

The purpose of this study is to form processes to get findings from targeted gene sequencing that can be acted on using two common actionable genetic disorders–familial hyperlipidemia and familial colorectal cancer. 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Current participant in the Sangre Por Salud Biobank, Mountain Park Health Center, Phoenix, Arizona (IRB#12-008503)
  • Dyslipidemia with
    • Hypercholesterolemia 
      • LDL>140 mg/dL 
      • HDL < 40 mg/dL  
    • Triglycerides >150 mg/dL
    • Colon polyps (any type)
  • Age 18 to 75 years
  • Resident of Arizona 
  • Able to provide informed consent

Exclusion Criteria

  • Pregnant females will be allowed to enroll in the study.  This is not an interventional study and there will be no risk to the mother or neonate
