Study type
ObservationalDescribes the nature of a clinical study. Types include:
- Observational study — observes people and measures outcomes without affecting results.
- Interventional study (clinical trial) — studies new tests, treatments, drugs, surgical procedures or devices.
- Medical records research — uses historical information collected from medical records of large groups of people to study how diseases progress and which treatments and surgeries work best.

About this study
To create a biorepository of fluid [lung lavage], blood and tissue specimens [explanted diseased lung tissue from the recipient and serial lung biopsy specimens after transplant] for future studies.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Eligibility criteria, including the population(s) from which specimens/data will be obtained:
All patients with advanced end-stage lung and heart-lung disease deemed suitable for lung or combined heart-lung [or at times lung-liver, lung kidney etc., where lung is one of the failed organs] transplantation, once actively listed for lung or combined heart-lung, lung-kidney or liver-lung transplantation will be eligible.
Provisions for inclusion of minorities:
All adult patients over age 16 years, who meet the above mentioned criteria, will be approached for study participation, regardless of race or sex or other indicator of minority status.
