A Study of the Effectiveness of Palliative Care Consultation for Patients with Advanced Lung Disease

About this study

The purpose of  this study is to determine the usefulness of palliative care consultations by a specialty physician and a pulmonologist for patients who have advanced lung disease.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • 18 years and over
  • Has had prior clinic appointments at the Division of Thoracic Diseases & Critical Care
  • Existing diagnosis of an advanced and life limiting lung disease, including
    • Bronchiolar disorders, e.g., BOOP
    • Interstitial lung disease including pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, etc
    • Obstructive lung disease including chronic bronchitis and emphysema
    • Occupational lung diseases
    • Pulmonary hypertension
    • Vasculitidies of the lung

Exclusion Criteria 

  • Younger than 18
  • Do not have an established pulmonologist 
  • Are unable or unwilling to give consent
