Effects of Symptom Severity, Depressive and Anxiety Symptoms, and Health Behaviors on Daily Functioning and Diagnosis of Pediatric Patients with POTS or Other Autonomic Dysfunction

About this study

The purpose of this study is to gather information about symptoms of autonomic dysfunction, depressive and anxiety symptoms, health behaviors, social support, and ability to do everyday tasks.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  1. Adolescents and young adults between the ages of 13 and 22 years
  2. Seeking evaluation of possible autonomic dysfunction through the Pediatric Diagnostic and Referral Clinic at Mayo Clinic
  3. With the ability to understand written English to complete research questionnaires independently
  4. Individuals who subsequently receive a diagnosis of POTS or AD will be eligible to complete follow-up measures

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Language difficulties (i.e., inability to understand spoken or written English instructions) that would invalidate questionnaire results
  • Documented disability including developmental delay, cognitive disability, blindness, deafness, paralysis, or psychosis
