A Study on Pulmonary Mechanics of Playing Wind Instruments

About this study

The purpose of this pilot study is to examine lung function of long time harmonica players and understand the pulmonary mechanics of harmonica playing including the abdominal and thoracic pressures generated and the pattern of muscle activation.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Generally healthy adults aged 18-80 years
  • Able to play a harmonica

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • History of respiratory, cardiovascular, or metabolic disease.
