Overview
Tab Title Description
Study type
ObservationalDescribes the nature of a clinical study. Types include:
- Observational study — observes people and measures outcomes without affecting results.

About this study
The purpose of this study is to:
- To determine whether the presence of pleural effusion measured by bedside ultrasound in the immediate pre-liver transplant period is associated with worse postoperative outcome as compared to no pleural effusion
- To determine the prevalence of pleural effusion in the immediate pre-liver transplant period measured by lung ultrasound, as compared to the prevalence measured by routine pre-transplant chest imaging
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Patients aged 18-85 years of age, regardless of gender, ethnicity or background
- Patients who are scheduled to undergo liver transplantation
Exclusion Criteria:
- Patients or their medical surrogate refuse written consent or enrollment in study
- Patients whose lung ultrasound views could not be obtained view after two attempts each, by two different research staff who are experienced in lung ultrasound
