Outcomes of Advanced Practice Providers Focused Cardiac Ultrasound Training

About this study

The purpose of this study is to provide objective evaluation of the knowledge, skills, and behaviors of advanced practice providers (APP) trained to perform a focused cardiac ultrasound (FCU) in order to improve the delivery of care and reduce patient and hospital costs.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Patients identified by the participants during their usual clinical cardiac assessment  and as possibly benefiting from FCU imaging to answer the following specific cardiac conditions:

  1. Presence of global left ventricular systolic function 
  2. Presence of pericardial effusion 
  3. Inferior vena cava size 
  4. Presence of cardiac standstill.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  1. Patients less than 21 years old
  2. APPs who have previously completed a Basic FCU Training program
  3. Either participants or subjects who decline consent to participate in the study
