A Study to Understand Clinical Reasoning Growth in Occupational and Physical Therapy Students’ when Participating in a Traditional or Collaborative Model in the Clinic

About this study

The purpose of this study is to:

1. Understand the effects of individual versus group learning on occupational therapy students clinical reasoning.

2. Understand the effect of individual versus group learning on physical therapy students clinical reasoning.

3. Understand students’ preferred learning styles and teaching strategies during occupational or physical therapy internship.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Students at the end of their occupational or physical therapy terminal degree program that are completing an internship in a traditional model (1:1, one instructor to one student) or collaborative model (3:1; three students to one instructor).

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Occupational and physical students that are in their didactic coursework, Level I occupational therapy students, 1st and 2nd year physical therapy students, and occupational or physical therapy residents from all academic institutions
