A Study of Cerebrospinal Fluid Proteomic, Metabolomic, and Cytokine Profiles in the Central Nervous System

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to examine paired serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from subjects with encephalitis, meningitis, and myelitis to investigate two (2) specific pathways suspected of playing a role in the host response to infection and/or inflammation.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Subjects will be recruited if they have a clinical syndrome compatible with meningitis, encephalitis, or myelitis.
  • Adults 18 years of age or older.
  • Healthy controls will also be recruited (subjects undergoing CSF analysis without infectious or inflammatory disorder; e.g., patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension or other headache disorder with normal CSF).

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Include patients who have contraindications to lumbar puncture.
