About this study
The purpose of this study is to develop a Biobank of blood and tissue collected from individuals with known or suspected Barrett’s esophagus , esophageal adenocarcinoma, squamous dysplasia and carcinoma.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- BE segment will be defined as 2 cm or more of esophageal columnar epithelium, measured from the esophagogastric junction to the highest tongue, with biopsy confirmation of intestinal metaplasia with goblet cells.
- Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus will require biopsy confirmation of cancer.
- Squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus will require biopsy confirmation of squamous neoplasia.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Age less than 18
- Inability to sign a consent (mental retardation, non-English speaker)
- Non adeno or squamous cell malignancy (such as a leiomyosarcoma)
- Vulnerable population (prisoner)
