Improving Safety of Lead Extraction Procedures by Traction Force Sensing

About this study

The purpose of this first prospective study is to evaluate force vectors during lead extraction procedures. While the patient and the physicians are aware of the procedure assignments (open label), outcome assessors and statisticians are blinded to the outcomes. Knowledge from this perspective study may ultimately improve patient care; enhance our academic standing, and improve educational satisfaction of our trainees.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • All adult patients (>18 years) with CIED infection requiring lead extraction procedures at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
  • Patients who agree to participate in the study after giving informed consent. 

Exclusion Criteria:

  • None.
