A Study to Evaluate The Effect of Glucagon and Insulin on Endogenous Glucose Production in Humans
Overview
Tab Title Description
Study type
InterventionalDescribes the nature of a clinical study. Types include:
- Observational study — observes people and measures outcomes without affecting results.
- Interventional study (clinical trial) — studies new tests, treatments, drugs, surgical procedures or devices.
- Medical records research — uses historical information collected from medical records of large groups of people to study how diseases progress and which treatments and surgeries work best.

About this study
The experimental design we propose will enable the dissection of the relative contribution of insulin and glucagon concentrations to endogenous glucose production. Acquisition of this data will allow us to develop a model of insulin and glucagon contributions to postprandial glucose metabolism
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Individuals ≥ 18 and ≤ 60 years of age.
- Otherwise healthy subjects using intramural and local extramural advertising after approval from the Mayo Clinic Institutional Review Board.
- Individuals who express interest in participating will be invited for a screening visit.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Age < 18 or > 60.
- BMI < 19 or >40 kg/m^2.
- Medication that can affect glucose metabolism (determined by PI).
- Any chronic illness.
- Upper GI surgery.
- History of diabetes (FBG > 100 mg/dL).
Eligibility last updated 12/2/21. Questions regarding updates should be directed to the study team contact.
