Understanding Barriers and Facilitators to Career Progression for Women of Color in health care organizations

About this study

The overall objective of this research is to understand the lived experiences of women of color working in health care organizations with a predominantly-white workforce and identify barriers and facilitators to career advancement for women of color with the goal to inform organizational interventions that enhance the work environment, improve access to equitable hiring and promotion processes, and increase employee satisfaction for women of color employees. In addition the study will assess employee perspectives and experiences regarding anti-racism initiatives. We will use mixed methods approach to achieve this objective. 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Women working at Mayo Clinic who self-identify as Black or African American, Asian or Asian American, Hispanic or Latina, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, multi-racial, or a race not listed here other than non-Hispanic white.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Individuals who self-identify as non-Hispanic white only.
