Nail Fold Video Capillaroscopy in Interstitial Lung Disease

About this study

The purpose of this study is to examine the use of nail fold video capillaroscopy (NVC) to better characterize patients with connective tissue disease (CTD) interstitial lung disease (ILD) and interstitial pneumonitis with autoimmune features (IPAF) versus idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The specific aims are as to define the prevalence and phenotype of capillaroscopic abnormalities in patients with CTD ILD, IPAF and IPF. Also, among patients with CTD ILD, IPAF AND IPF, will examine the association of abnormal NVC with severity of lung involvement.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age ≥ 18 years.
  • Adult patients with CTD- ILD, IPAF, IPF.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Dialysis dependence.
  • Type 2 diabetes.
  • Recent hand trauma or manicure (< 2 weeks).
  • Routine use of vibratory tools.
  • History of acrocyanosis or erythromelalgia.
  • Previous diagnosis of a bleeding disorder.
  • Diagnosis of psoriasis.
  • Diagnosis of anti-phospholipid syndrome.
  • Exposure to toluene or benzoyl.
  • Diagnosis of psoriasis.
  • Diagnosis of anti-phospholipid syndrome.
  • Exposure to toluene or benzoyl.
  • Diagnosis of COPD.
