Recreational Golfers' Performance Pre- and Post-Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evalauate recreational golfers’ performance preoperatively and postoperatively at 3 months and 1 year after primary total hip and knee arthroplasty.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult patients undergoing primary Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) or Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) for osteoarthritis only.
  • Active Golf Handicap Index Network (GHIN) number and handicap index (HI).
  • Minimum 10 rounds of golf in the year preceding surgery.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Any prior THA or TKA in a contralateral or ipsilateral extremity.
  • Surgical indications other than osteoarthritis.
  • Conversion or revision total joint procedures.
  • Failure to complete full golf performance assessment pre- and post-operatively.
