Evaluatiion of In-Home Urgent Care Services by Pairing In-Person and Virtual Clinicians in a Rural Community

About this study

The purpose of this study is to collect data about patient diagnosis, treatment, outcomes, prognosis, satisfaction, safety, quality, and costs in the virtual hybrid urgent care program when compared to traditional urgent care to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and safety of a virtual hybrid Urgent Care program.  

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria: 

  • Adult patients (≥ 18 years) triaged to Urgent Care services crom Community Internal Medicine on the Eau Claire campus. 
  • Home address within 15 miles of the Eau Claire hospital. 
  • Consent to receive hybrid virtual Urgent Care services. 
  • Patient has existing access to cellular enabled device including text messaging.
  • Initial call with Community Internal Medicine triaging to UC/ED with the following symptoms: 
    • Cough;
    • Sore Throat;
    • Wheezing;  
    • Dysuria, urinary frequency or urgency; 
    • Diarrhea;
    • Leg swelling; 
    • Vomiting; 
    • Cellulitis; 
    • Flu like symptoms;
    • Upper respiratory infections.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • < 18 years old.
