About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate if the AI model ChatGPT can effectively translate complex medical terminology in MRI reports into plain language that improves patient comprehension.  

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult patients aged 18 years or older presenting to the pain clinic at Mayo Clinic Florida.
  • Patients scheduled to undergo musculoskeletal MRI imaging of the knee, shoulder, ankle, hip, wrist, and elbow joints.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients undergoing spine MRI imaging including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar.
  • Patients undergoing MRI imaging for non-musculoskeletal indications (e.g. brain, abdominal, pelvic MRI).
  • MRI reports that indicate a new or incidental potentially catastrophic condition (such as cancer metastasis or neurological conditions) that a medical professional has not previously discussed.
