Burden of Cardiovascular Disease in Master Athletes With a Lifetime History of High-Intensity Endurance

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify and describe the exercise habits of a cohort of highly active masters-level athletes with a lifetime history of high-intensity endurance athletic performance and competition and to evaluate the type and burden of cardiovascular and bone disease in master athletes with a lifetime history of high-intensity endurance athletic performance and competition. The hypothesis being that master athletes over the age of 40 with a history of high-level endurance athletic achievement will report ongoing high levels of physical activity and a low burden of cardiovascular disease into their later adult years.
