A Study to Assess if Bladder Stiffness (Compliance) can be Evaluated using Ultrasound

About this study

The purpose of this research study to help us understand whether a type of ultrasound can measure bladder stiffness (or compliance).

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:    

  • Patient Participants must be:
    • At least 21 years of age or older
    • Scheduled to undergo a urodynamic study
  • Participants must also have at least one of the following conditions:
    • Neurogenic bladder
    • Stress incontinence
    • Benign prostatic hyperlasia
    • Voiding dysfunction
  • Healthy participant must be at least 21 and less than 40 years old.

Exclusion Criteria:   

  • Dysreflexia
  • Obese (body mass index>35)
  • Prolonged catheter drainage
  • Previous pelvic radiation therapy
  • Previous radical pelvic surgery (such as for colon cancer)
  • Prior bladder surgery (including prostate resection)
  • Pregnant or breast-feeding women
