About this study
This study aims to expand the limited scientific knowledge of determinants of patient activation level of people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the United States.
Participation eligibility
Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Men and women 40 years of age or older
- Current or past smokers of at least 10 pack-years
- Can speak and read the English language
- Clinical diagnosis of COPD, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema
- Have completed spirometry at Mayo Clinic in the past 2 years, reflecting a post-bronchodilator forced expiratory volume (FEV1) of < 0.80 predicted and forced expiratory volume (FEV1)/forced vital capacity volume (FVC) ratio of < 0.70 predicted
- United States residence per current primary mailing address
- Can provide own informed consent for participation in this study
Exclusion Criteria:
- Living in an assisted living or skilled nursing facility
- Enrolled in adult complex care coordination programming
- Prisoners
- Medical record documented cognitive disease or mental illness impairing their ability to answer questions or provide informed consent
