Does the Critical Shoulder Angle Influence the Rotator Cuff Failure After Anatomic Shoulder Arthroplasty?

About this study

The purpose of this study is to:

  • Evaluate the influence of the critical shoulder angle (CSA) on outcomes after total anatomic shoulder arthroplasty; and
  • Evaluate the influence of the critical shoulder angle (CSA) on rotator cuff failure after total anatomic shoulder arthroplasty.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients operated at Mayo Clinic for an anatomic shoulder arthroplasty (hemiarthroplasty or total shoulder arthroplasty) between 1984 and 2016.
  • Patients operated for total shoulder arthroplasty in first intention with no peroperative complications with adequate pre, immediate postoperative and last follow up standard true anteroposterior radiographs.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • patients with glenoid dysplasia, rheumatoid arthritis, antecedent of prior surgery on the ipsilateral shoulder.
