About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the two standard of care approaches, the medial approach and the dorsal approach, and look at the effectiveness of cheilectomy treatment for stage 2 or 3 hallux rigidus.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult patients 18+ years old
  • Painful stage 2 or 3 hallux rigidus diagnosis
  • Failed nonoperative management

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Children less than 18 years old
  • Infection
  • Prior surgeries involving the ipsilateral hallux
  • Lumbar radiculopathy
  • Diabetic patient with neuropathy
  • Inflammatory arthropathy
  • Severe hallux valgus or varus deformity
