Transcranial Doppler Assessment in Moyamoya Vasculopathy

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine whether cerebrovascular autoregulation measured by TFA may indicate disease severity among patients with moyamoya vasculopathy.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Moyamoya Disease and Moyamoya Vasculopathy
  • Scheduled for standard of care TCD to assess cerebrovascular reserves
  • Adequate bone windows for insonation
  • Ability to perform breath holding and Valsalva maneuvers

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Inadequate bone windows for insonation
  • Unable to perform breath holding and Valsalva maneuvers
  • Protected research populations (children, prisoners, pregnant women, fetuses or neonates)
  • Vulnerable research populations (non-English speakers, unable to read, minority, educationally disadvantaged, students, employees, financially disadvantaged)
