Lung Ultrasound for Identification of Pulmonary Edema in Adults With Congenital Heart Disease

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this is observational study of lung ultrasound in adults (> 18 years) with congenital heart disease (N=25) undergoing cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) or stress echocardiogram (SE) designed for the purpose of describing the technical feasibility of lung ultrasound for classifying heart failure in ACHD patients.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults (> 18 years) with congenital heart disease undergoing cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) or non-pharmacological stress echocardiogram (SE) as part of routine clinical care.

  • Purposive sampling of ACHD patients with reduced ejection fraction or clinical concern for HF will be undertaken for all study participants.

  • Reduced ejection fraction is defined as systemic LVEF < 50%, systemic RVEF < 45%.

  • Clinical concern for HF is defined as existing HF diagnosis, abnormal NT pro BNP, and/or recent HF hospitalization.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • ACHD patients unable to exercise or undergoing pharmacologic (dobutamine or otherwise) stress echocardiogram, Pregnancy, Lung scarring or fibrosis.

Note: Other protocol defined Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria may apply.

Eligibility last updated 2/25/2025. Questions regarding updates should be directed to the study team contact.
