  • Targeting Pathways in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Using Metformin (MET) Rochester, MN

The investigator's global hypothesis is that women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can be separated into subtypes based on their response to metformin. The investigators propose here to use both targeted and non-targeted metabolomic approach to identify pathways associated with metformin's effect on insulin sensitivity and endothelial function. This pilot project will be the foundation for developing tailored therapeutic approaches to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and identifying novel drug targets.

  • A Study to Evaluate Blood Chemistry, Genetics, and Eye Exams in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and/or Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension Rochester, MN

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the blood chemistry, genetics, and eye exams in women with polycystic ovary syndrome and/or intracranial hypertension. Similar studies are being completed with astronauts. The results may help us better understand the nature, and ultimately the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome, intracranial hypertension, and astronaut eye and vision issues.

  • Clomiphene Citrate Fast-Track Protocol for Fertility Treatment in Women With PCOS Rochester, MN

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have traditionally been treated for infertility by using progestin for a withdrawal bleed (aka endometrial shedding) before clomiphene citrate (CC) is administered to induce ovulation.

Recent evidence suggests that this approach (the traditional CC protocol) may be associated with decreased pregnancy and live birth rates, compared to the "fast track" CC protocol (in which no progestin is used).

The investigators are performing the first randomized controlled trial to find out if skipping the use of progestin (fast track CC protocol) during fertility therapy of anovulatory PCOS women leads to improved pregnancy and live birth rates compared ...
