The Biomedical Ethics Research Program offers graduate and medical school opportunities through a variety of courses on ethics and research.

Graduate school opportunities

In partnership with Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, faculty members in the Biomedical Ethics Research Program teach courses on responsible conduct of research and on specialized topics in biomedical ethics.

Postdoctoral Master's Degree Program

The Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers a Postdoctoral Master's Degree Program in clinical and translational science with a concentration in biomedical ethics research for Mayo Clinic physicians, scientists and other staff. This concentration prepares postdoctoral learners to design and implement research protocols by providing rigorous methodological and conceptual training in biomedical ethics research. Medical school opportunities

Through the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, faculty members in the Biomedical Ethics Research Program teach medical students about principles of biomedical ethics and work with them to develop key skills for managing ethical dilemmas in medicine and research.

Specific medical school opportunities include:

  • Distinction Track for Medical Students. A Distinction Track in Biomedical Ethics is intended to recognize and support School of Medicine learners who show exceptional involvement, accomplishment and scholarship in biomedical ethics. This track is designed to provide learners with the opportunity to gain additional bioethics knowledge and develop research skills in the area of biomedical ethics outside of what is provided in the standard curriculum.
  • Bioethics Interest Group. The Bioethics Selective provides medical students with the opportunity to further explore ethical dilemmas in medicine. Through lunch talks and discussion groups, students have the opportunity to learn about relevant ethical concerns in medicine. Students also have the opportunity to shadow in a variety of medical specialties, allowing them to see ethical concerns firsthand.
