A Study Connecting Early Infant Stomach Tubes and Later Irritable Bowel Symptoms

About this study

The purpose of this study is to find out if having a stomach tube placed as a baby is connected to having greater chances of stomach or intestine problems later in life.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

Born July 1998-July 2002
Gestational age 34 0/7-36 6/7
Well baby in Level 2 or 3 nursery
Fluency in English
Cases: Insertion of GT 0-6 weeks
Controls: No GT 0-6 weeks

Exclusion Criteria

Documented or suspected genetic disorders
Complex congenital anomalies
Serious infection, received antibiotics >48 hours
Major medical comorbidities (e.g. intraventricular hemorrhage, stroke, patent ductus arteriosus, etc.)
Endotracheal tube or nasal CPAP
