A Study of Two-Dimensional Echocardiography to Improve Initial Diagnosis of Acute Coronary Syndrome in Patients with Chest Pain

About this study

The purpose of this study is to see if using two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography improves the initial diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome in patients with chest pain who visit the emergency department.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

Visit the emergency department with a chief symptom of chest pain for 24 hours or less
Age 18 years or older
No significant ST elevation or abnormal Q waves on ECG

Exclusion Criteria

Signs of moderate congestive heart failure (NYHA III or higher)
Shock or unstable hemodynamics (based on the judgment of their attending physician)
Any patients who should be excluded from the study for medical reasons, based on the judgment of their attending physician
