A Study Connecting Daily Energy Use and Brain Function Effects

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to see if Resting Energy Expenditure (REE),the amount of energy the body uses when resting, and physical activity will predict changes in brain function and imaging.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Mayo Clinic Study of Aging participants or in APOE cohort at Mayo Clinic in Arizona
  • Aged 50 years and older
  • Have undergone brain imaging within 2 years of the start date of the proposed study
  • Cognitively normal persons as well as subjects with MCI with diverse neuropsychological scores will be recruited

 

Exclusion Criteria

  • Subjects who have no access to computers
  • Are unable or unwilling to use the Breezing or Actigraph wGT3X-BT device
  • Documented chronic obstructive pulmonary disease since valid use of the Breezing device is dependent on normal breathing.
