A Study of the Effect of Treatment on Activity and Muscle Function in Pediatric Patients with Scoliosis

About this study

This study will explore the relationship between skeletal muscle and physical activity in scoliosis patients to provide insight into both the etiology of scoliosis and possible ways to mitigate the potential harm of treatment.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Males and females between 9 to 21 years of age.

Scoliosis/Surgery Group

  • Have severe scoliosis curves requiring posterior spinal fusion surgery.

Scoliosis/Brace Group

  • Have scoliosis curves requiring brace treatment for at least the next year.

The Control Group

  • Aged matched participants.
  • Have healed forearm fractures .
  • Will be matched to case patients by age, gender, and Body Mass Index (BMI).

Exclusion Criteria

  • Patients with underlying muscle conditions or neuromuscular scoliosis.
