A Study of the Accuracy of Finger Stick Glucose Meters in Surgery

About this study

The purpose of this study is to see if finger stick glucose meters can give reliable and accurate glucose measurements during surgery compared to lab tested blood draws.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

 Inclusion Criteria

  • Adult (age > 18 y) male and female patients 
  • Scheduled to undergo elective surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital
  • Use of arterial catheter for monitoring and/or blood sampling  

 

Exclusion Criteria

  • The discretion of the anesthesiologist not to place an arterial line 
  • Technically unable to place an arterial line
