A Study of the Genetic Links of Type 2 Diabetes in Latino Families

About this study

The purpose of this study is to find the inheritable changes in genetic makeup that are related to the development of type 2 diabetes in Latino families.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Able to communicate meaningfully with the investigator
  • Legally competent to provide written informed consent
  • Of either sex and aged 18-85 years
  • Taking a stable dose of estrogens or other hormonal replacement therapy if the subject has been on these agents for the prior three months

Exclusion Criteria 

  • Must not be receiving any of the following medications
    • Thiazide or furosemide diuretics
    • Beta-blockers
    • Systemic glucocorticoids
    • Other chronic medications with known adverse effects on glucose tolerance levels unless the patient has been on a stable dose of such agents for the past three months before entry into the study
