A Study Using a Bedside Echocardiograph to Assess Heart Rhythm in Patients with Tachycardia

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine if point-of-care echocardiography is a useful tool for assessing heart rhythm in patients that present with various tachyarrhythmia.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Age greater than 18,
Heart rate greater than 130 with an ECG obtained during their Emergency Department stay

Exclusion Criteria:

Patients under the age of 18,
Prison inmates,
Pregnant patients,
Patients who are unable to give informed consent,
Critically ill patient who will need emergent therapy as defined by the Emergency Medicine consultant of record for the patient,
Non-english speaking patients,
History of mitral valve replacement
