A Study of the Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index as it Relates to Indicators of Left Ventricle Structure and Function

About this study

The purpose of the study is to test whether cardio-ankle vascular index, a measure of arterial stiffness that can be obtained in the office setting, is associated with cardiac function and structure as assessed by echocardiography.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

Age 18-80 years
Patients referred for transthoracic echocardiography
Able to provide informed consent

Exclusion Criteria

Known cardiovascular disease
Known to have structural heart disease, e.g. valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy etc
Brachial edema or brachial with bleeding tendency (when renal failure or serious liver disease is suspected)
Possible blood congestion that may cause thrombus (blunt lung anamnesis or thromboarthritis)
Possible blood congestion which may cause peripheral circulation obstruction (Raynaud’s disease or angitis)
Artificial dialysis shunts in their brachial artery
Pregnancy
