A Study of Information Provided by Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing When Evaluating Patients with Aortic Stenosis

About this study

The purpose of this study is to find if cardiopulmonary exercise testing data will provide any predictive information in evaluating patients with aortic stenosis for severity, symptoms and surgical risk.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria

Diagnosis of aortic stenosis
Had cardiopulmonary exercise testing between November of 2007 and April of 2014
An aortic valve area < 1.5 cm2 and some question of the need for or timing of aortic valve replacement identified in the clinical notes
Coronary artery disease or atrial fibrillation will not be excluded

Exclusion Criteria

Concomitant mitral valve disease of sufficient severity to potentially indicate a two-valve operation
Other life-limiting diseases
Inability to perform the exercise of the cardiopulmonary exercise testing
