Liver Elastography using the GE Logiq E9 Ultrasound Scanner

Overview

About this study

Liver stiffness measured by MRE can be used for liver fibrosis staging. However, MRE is expensive and not as widely available. The GE Logiq E9 ultrasound scanners in Radiology department can now make shear wave elastography (SWE) measurements. Before these scanners can be used for making clinical measurements for liver fibrosis staging, it is important to evaluate the reliability of SWE measurements on the Logiq E9. The aims of this study are to train sonographers for making SWE measurements,  estimate the variability of the SWE measurements, and estimate the correlation of SWE and MRE measurements.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Both male and female patients who are scheduled for clinically indicated liver ultrasound imaging or MRE for fibrosis staging,
  • age of 18 or greater
  • and BMI<35

Exclusion Criteria:

  • patients lacking capacity to consent,
  • patients with unreliable ultrasound measurements
