Coagulation Test Changes Associated with Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution in Cardiac Surgery

About this study

The specific aim of this study is to determine best practice in management of cardiac surgical patients with post- cardiopulmonary bypass (CBP)coagulopathy and bleeding. The aim is to compare outcomes in patients who receive acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) blood to control patients with post-CPB factor mediated coagulopathy and clinically significant microvascular bleeding who have did not receive ANH.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Undergoing a cardiac surgical procedure utilizing cardiopulmonary bypass
  • Permission to use medical records in research

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Unable to grant informed consent or comply with study procedure
  • Patient refusal of FWB withdrawal.
  • Undergoing emergency open heart-surgery
  • Less than 18 years of age
  • Pregnant
