A Study Screening Mammograms for Women in Their 40s: Mammography Choice

About this study

The purpose of this study is to help women in their late 30s and in their 40s, make decisions regarding breast cancer screening that align with each women’s values and preferences. 

 

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Observations of Clinical Encounters
    • Clinicians
      • PCIM and FM at Mayo Clinic, Rochester and Kasson and MCHS
  • Field Testing & Iterative Development
    • Women
      • Adult women aged 39-49
      • Medical exam visit scheduled with eligible clinician
  • Field Testing & Iterative Development through Focus Groups
    • Women
    • Adult women aged 30-49

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Observations of Clinical Encounters
    • Clinicians
      • None
  • Field Testing & Iterative Development
    • Women
      • Major barriers to participate in shared decision making or to providing informed consent (i.e. dementia, severe hearing or visual impairment)
      • Personal history of breast cancer, LCIS, or atypia (ADH/ALH), or suspected or known BRCA 1 or 2 mutations
      • Initially will exclude women with known breast density of D3 or higher
  • Field Testing & Iterative Development through Focus Groups
    • Major barriers to participate in shared decision making or to providing informed consent (i.e. dementia, severe hearing or visual impairment)
