A Study to Collect Tissue and Blood Samples from Patients Undergoing Surgery to Establish a Bank to Understand Fat Tissue Growth Factors

About this study

The primary purpose of this research study is to collect a large enough sample of fat cells (preadipocytes) and blood from patients undergoing surgery to establish a bank of samples for use by researchers to begin to understand what factors regulate the ability of fat tissue to grow better in some people than others.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Male or female patients
  • Age 18 to 85
  • Adults with BMI’s ranging from 18.5-no upper limit 
  • Are undergoing elective surgery

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients with intra-abdominal malignancies or who are medically unstable (American Society for Anaesthesia class >3)
