A Study of What is Different in People with Alopecia Areata that Makes T cells Attack Hair Follicles

About this study

This study is being done to try to figure out what is different in people with Alopecia Areata that makes the T cells attack hair follicles.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

AA Patients

  • Subjects must have Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Totalis or Alopecia Universalis, and no immunodeficiency or cancer (although coincidence of other autoimmune diseases could still qualify for inclusion) 
  • Subjects should not be pregnant or be on systemic corticosteroids
  • Subjects of any age, race, or gender will be included as long as they are able to provide informed consent 

Control samples 

  • For all control subjects
    • Individuals must have no history of AA 
    • No immunodeficiency or cancer
    • Subjects should not be pregnant or be on systemic corticosteroids 
    • Subjects of any age, race, or gender will be included as long as they are able to provide informed consent
