Uncovering Personal Accounts of Chronic Disease Patients through Social Media

Overview

About this study

This research takes a dual perspective (patients and physicians) to examine social media use by chronic disease patients who share their narratives of illness online. Specifically,

  • Patient Perspective: How do chronic disease patients share their illness experiences via social media and how do the technological features of social media influence these behaviors?
  • Physician Perspective: How physicians use these platforms? Can patients’ accounts and narratives of illness be channeled to physicians?
