About this study

The purpose of this study is to create a registry of patients with liver cancer (also known as hepatocellular carcinoma) and individuals with no history of liver cancer in order to characterize risk factors for liver cancer and identify biomarkers for early detection of liver cancer. 

 

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Males and females.
  • Are 18 years of age or older.
  • Have histologically confirmed diagnosis of HCC within six months of contact data (cases) or no known diagnosis of cancer (except non-malignant melanoma of the skin) or liver disease (controls).  
  • Does not have a diagnosis of HIV or AIDS.
  • Are able to speak and read English.
  • Are compos mentis: of sound mind, memory, and understanding, and able to provide written informed consent.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Is under the age of 18 years or over the age of 100 years.
  • Is unable to speak or read English.
  • Is not mentally competent to provide consent.
  • Has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Has a diagnosis of HIV or AIDS.
  • Is institutionalized (e.g., FMC patients or nursing home).
